Post-doctoral Opportunity in Peripheral Neuropathy

Post-doctoral Opportunity in Peripheral Neuropathy

A post-doctoral opportunity in peripheral neuropathy is available in the de Nooij laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center (New York, NY). Research in the de Nooij lab is aimed at understanding proprioceptor development and function through the use of in vivo mouse models and in vitro-derived sensory neurons, in normal, as well as under neuropathological conditions. (Please see http://columbiadenooijlab.org/ for additional information). The current research position is for a translational project to develop a robust in vitro model system for Friedreich Ataxia (FA) using patient-derived sensory neurons. The study will require a range of interdisciplinary approaches, including the differentiation of FA-patient iPSCs into distinct classes of sensory neurons, genome editing, transcriptome analysis, and high-resolution immunofluorescence imaging techniques. The project is funded in part by the Friedreich Ataxia Research Association (FARA) and is a collaboration between the de Nooij lab, and the Magrane lab at Cornell Medical.

We seek a highly motivated candidate who holds a Ph.D. degree in a somatosensation-related field of study (e.g. neuroscience, physiology). Other required qualifications include strong laboratory and analytical skills, effective organizational/project management abilities, proficiency in verbal and written communication, and excellent interpersonal skills. Previous working experience with embryonic or induced pluripotent stem cells (ESCs/iPSCs), is highly desired but not essential.

Interested applicants should email their curriculum vitae (or a recent NIH bio sketch), a brief summary of past, current and future research interests (not to exceed two pages), and contact information for two to three professional references to sd382@cumc.columbia.edu.  Additional inquiries regarding the position can be send to the same email address.
